The Three Rules of...Breaking the Rules?

On July 24, Steve Boehlke shared with us advice gained from over two decades working in leadership development with organizations large and small, including Cargill, Merch and Nestle, among others.

His advice to young nonprofit professionals? If you want to create change, ask yourself, "How can I break the rules?" Because it's in those unwritten taboos at organizations that opportunities for growth can be found.

2013 Catalytic Leader Award: Kat Kempe

kat_kempe.jpgBack in April, Kelly Rowan wrote a YNPN blog post about the importance of recognizing leadership in our peers, and encouraged readers to nominate a colleague for the Minnesota Council of Nonprofit’s Nonprofit Leadership Awards. One of our very own YNPN members, Kat Kempe, won the Catalytic Leader award, which is given to someone who “effectively leads from the middle…, understands how to move change forward in an organization…, and has helped shape his/her organization through strategic change.” Kat works for Think Small as a Senior Policy Advocate, which entails community organizing and communications for the early childhood advocacy, education and resource nonprofit.  In their words about Kat’s award,

Nathan Magel Bids Farewell to YNPN-TC

In July, YNPN Twin Cities board chair Nathan Magel will be leaving the Twin Cities to pursue a graduate program in New York City. Jamie Millard, current YNPN-TC vice-chair, was appointed interim board chair to finish out Nathan's 2013 term. Board member Brian Gioielli was elected YNPN-TC’s interim vice chair for the remainder of 2013. Read on, as Nathan reflects on his experience with YNPN Twin Cities.
