Lars is co-founder and principal of Ballinger | Leafblad, Inc. a Saint Paul-based executive search and selection consulting firm serving civic clients (foundations, nonprofits, higher education institutions and membership associations). Prior to co-founding Ballinger | Leafblad, Inc., he was Leadership & Engagement Director at the Saint Paul, MN-based Bush Foundation, where he directed the Bush Fellowship leadership programs. He is also founder of PollenMidwest.org, a MN-based non-profit organization comprised of 10,000+ civic-minded connectors who share ideas, career & civic engagement opportunities & peer-to-peer recognition with one another.
He was named a "40 Under 40" by Mpls-St. Paul Business Journal in 2007 and has appeared on MPR's "Daily Circuit" & "Midmorning" programs and on TPT's "Almanac". Lars has been recognized by Twin Cities Business magazine as one of "200 Minnesotans You Should Know" and one of the "The (Real) Power 50" by MN Business magazine.
He earned a BA in Economics from St. Olaf College, an MBA from the Carlson School of Management and was a Humphrey Policy Fellow in 2008-09. He also spent two summers in college on the National Touring BBQ Team for Famous Dave's of America competing in BBQ competitions across the US.
Lars is a former board member of CaringBridge.org and a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). He lives in the Twin Cities as a divorcee co-parenting four amazing kids. In his free time he enjoys reading, coaching soccer, playing poker, and is a novice "rock-hound" who loves hunting for MN's state gemstone, Lake Superior Agate.
