leadership institute

Are you hungry for leadership and personal development opportunities, but struggle to find them in your daily routine? Do you work in the nonprofit and/or philanthropic sector? Fired up about your work and want to see that flame burn brightly throughout your career? Well that takes fuel, that takes space, and that takes tending. That takes the Leadership Institute.

YNPN Twin Cities and EPIP Minnesota are partnering to offer a unique cohort experience. The EYLI Leadership Institute will encourage you to explore the big career questions you’ve been asking, and will continue to ask, while you do some serious skill swapping and network weaving across the local philanthropic and nonprofit worlds.

Whether harnessing your hellfire or holding your sacred blue flame, we invite you to join us to gain the skills you need to build a network supporting your growth as a leader while you develop goals, strategies, action steps, and accountability to help you truly make the most of your career.

Applications are now closed - we hope to have you join us next year!

Leadership Institute FAQs

Is there a fee to participate?

This year, the Institute will have a sliding fee scale for participants based on ability to pay and/or access to professional development budgets or other funds. Selected participants will be able to select their cost, ranging from $0, $125 (covers full cost for yourself), or $250 (covers yourself and another - thanks for paying it forward!). Selected participants will be asked to pay the Institute fee before the opening retreat in March via check or invoice. If you have any questions about the fee structure, send us an email at LeadInMN(at)gmail(dot)com.

Is there an age limit for participants?

YNPN and EPIP programming generally attracts individuals in their 20’s and 30’s, but is open to emerging leaders of any age. If what we offer resonates with you, we encourage you to apply. Feel free to contact us at LeadInMN(at)gmail(dot)com to talk things through if you still have questions.

Who should apply?

Emerging leaders in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors looking for a “community of practice” to establish the habits, relationships, and support systems that will make our journeys - in our work and communities - sustainable.

This experience is aimed at encouraging exploration of the big career questions you’ve been asking and will continue to ask while doing some serious skill swapping and network weaving across the nonprofit and philanthropic sector.

We are seeking a diverse mix of 30 emerging leaders from local nonprofits and foundations, ideally split evenly between the two. Applicants must:

  • Be a member of YNPN Twin Cities or EPIP Minnesota - if you are already an EPIP or YNPN member, great! If not, YNPN membership is free and open to everyone in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. Sign up here.
  • Be committed to the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors
  • Be prepared to be an active participant
  • Be able to fully commit to the program timeline

 What is the time commitment?

This will be a 10-month intensive cohort program: March 2017 through December 2017. The Institute includes three retreats: A kick off retreat on March 16-17, a mid-session retreat on July 11 and a closing retreat December 7-8th.

After the opening retreat, the group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8:30pm, with the exception of July’s mid-session retreat. In addition, the cohort members will meet in small groups for conversations between the monthly sessions.

What is the program content and structure?

Co-creation in action: This program is being created by emerging professionals, for emerging professionals. YNPN and EPIP have designed this with co-creation in mind, planning the opening retreat and first few sessions to include time for the cohort to figure out what they want to contribute and get out of this experience, and then co-creating that experience through rotating team planning and facilitation on a topic of interest.

To help anchor the monthly sessions, participants will meet in small groups of 4 for peer mentoring circles to deepen connections and offer support.

We will augment time spent together with selected readings, personal challenges, and reflective exercises between sessions.

How will this experience benefit me?

Through this program, you will:

  • Expand your network, building deep, sustained relationships with local nonprofit and philanthropic professionals.
  • Practice useful habits of reflection, individually and in groups, to address the cyclical questions about your life, leadership and career.
  • Actively participate in a shared leadership experience and build facilitation, presentation and collaboration skills by sharing around a topic of your choice.
  • Conduct a career refresh or recharge in a supportive and accountable environment.

How do I apply?

Applications will open again in the fall.  Come back for more information.

What are the selection criteria?

Applications will be reviewed and participants selected based on their:

  • Commitment to personal growth/professional road-mapping
  • Commitment to the cohort and building relationships
  • Bridging nonprofit and philanthropic sectors
  • Co-creation

Additional questions?

Please don’t hesitate to contact us at LeadInMN(at)gmail(dot)com with any additional questions, or if you’d just like to talk through how this unique cohort experience might align with wherever you find yourself on your leadership journey.
