About YNPN Twin Cities & the Association of Fundraising Professionals:

YNPN Twin Cities aims to provide and promote opportunities for the development of young nonprofit professionals in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Looking to get to the next level in your nonprofit career? At the Leadership Breakfast series, nonprofit CEOs and Executive Directors will share with you exactly how they did it, what they learned, and what they're looking for in a rising nonprofit leader. 

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is a national organization of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit, charitable organizations. YNPN-TC is partnering with the Minnesota chapter of AFP on their National Philanthropy Day event by co-hosting this Leadership Breakfast. 

Other National Philanthropy Day events include an educational session led by Adrian Sargeant, Professor of Fundraising at University of Plymouth Business School, an awards ceremony, and a luncheon. A little bit about RT Rybak, CEO and President of The Minneapolis Foundation:

RT became CEO and President of The Minneapolis Foundation in July 2016. Most recently before this role, RT was Executive Director of Generation Next, a public-private coalition focused on closing education gaps for children of color. From 2002-2012 he was Mayor of Minneapolis, a position in which he led efforts in economic development, affordable housing, transportation, youth violence prevention, and created the STEP-UP summer jobs program that has employed 22,000 young people. 

The Minneapolis Foundation helps donors turn their passion into action, leveraging its expertise in philanthropic planning and community issues to make their giving go further. Through its community grantmaking, leadership work, and collaborations, the Foundation addresses critical issues in an effort to create a more vibrant community with increased social, economic, and racial equity. Last year, the Foundation distributed $80 million in grants.

The Foundation has six focus areas: the arts, civic engagement, economic vitality, education, the environment, and health. Serving as CEO/President of The Minneapolis Foundation requires that RT lead the way in providing the leadership and resources to tackle the deep racial, social, and economic inequities that still plague the community, while actively engaging donors and nurturing the community’s philanthropic culture.

RT is also a Senior Advisor for Municipal Practice at Living Cities, and serves on the Boards of the Northside Achievement Zone, the Minneapolis Parks Foundation, and Nice Ride Minnesota.

 

Leadership Breakfast Registration Lottery

Registration for this event will be open from Friday October 21 - Tuesday October 25. We allow as many people to sign up for the event as possible, and from there we will choose 35 participants at random. We do this to keep these events intimate while ensuring everyone has a fair chance to attend a Leadership Breakfast event.

Our facilitator will reach out to all participants by Thursday October 27 letting everyone know whether or not they received a spot through the lottery. In order to confirm a spot on the attendance list, participants will have to reply to the facilitator with a question for the speaker plus their current title and organization ("Currently Looking" being a perfectly acceptable answer as well!). Those who do not respond with a question for the speaker will have their spots given to individuals on the wait list.

What you need to know:

  • Those who received a spot through the lottery will have to reply to the YNPN facilitator with a question for the speaker in order to confirm their participation.
  • Attendees will receive additional location/parking details plus a list of other confirmed attendees the week of the event.
  • There will be a YNPN member on site to facilitate and help you get the most out of the discussion.
  • AFP will provide bagels and coffee.
  • Pollen Midwest will be present with a photographer and writer to post about the event.
