Leadership Breakfast with Nichol Beckstrand

Leadership Breakfast with Nichol Beckstrand

About The Leadership Breakfast Series

Looking to get to the next level in your nonprofit career? At YNPN Twin Cities' Leadership Breakfast series, nonprofit leaders will share with you exactly how they did it, what they learned and what they're looking for in a rising nonprofit leader. This month, we are experimenting, and introducing the leader of a B Corp. As it's been said, 'nonprofit' is a tax status, not a way of doing business. B Corps are a new, increasingly common model of organization that upholds financial sustainability goals as well as demonstrates progress in achieving positive social impact.

A little bit about Sunrise Banks:

Sunrise is a Community Development Financial Institution based in St. Paul with a mission of empowering the underserved to thrive. Their triple bottom line of people, planet, and prosperity shows as they innovate in the financial industry, offering services like the Credit Builder Program and Open Door Mortgage Credits to customers, and promoting and coordinating volunteerism throughout the Twin Cities through North4Good.

A little bit about Nichol Beckstrand, President of Sunrise Banks:

Nichol_Beckstrand_Photo.jpgNichol currently serves as President of Sunrise Banks, having joined Sunrise in 2006 and climbed to Chief Operating Officer in 2015. In this role Nichol leads all units including Credit, Legal, Regulatory, Audit, Risk (Compliance, BSA, TPR) IT, Customer Service and Support, Human Resources, and Financial Operations Management. Nichol drives a caring culture of achievement and is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and implementation, improving business processes to result in better customer service and bank efficiency, and increasing brand equity. She is skilled at navigating through innovation and change, and she is known for guiding and grooming the people she leads, finding hidden strengths.

Nichol has been honored as a 40 Under 40 by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and a Top Women in Finance by Finance & Commerce.

 Leadership Breakfast Registration Lottery

Registration for this event will be open from Tuesday, January 2 - Friday, January 5. We allow as many people to sign up for the event as possible, and from there we choose 25 participants at random, while also holding space for young nonprofit professionals who identify as a person of color. We do this to keep these events intimate while ensuring everyone has a fair chance to attend a Leadership Breakfast event. If you registered for the lottery and identify as a person of color, you can email to let us know to place your name in the correct lottery.

Our facilitator will reach out to all participants by Monday, January 8 letting everyone know whether or not they received a spot through the lottery. Lottery winners will be asked to submit a question by Thursday, January 11 for our speaker in order to confirm their space and guide our time together. Unconfirmed spaces will be given to members of the wait list.

What you need to know:

  • Our media sponsor, Pollen, will be at the event with a photographer and writer on hand.
  • There will be a YNPN member on site to facilitate and help you get the most out of these discussions.
  • Light breakfast of coffee (donated by Workhorse Coffee Bar) and bagels will be provided!
