About The Leadership Breakfast Series
Looking to get to the next level in your nonprofit career? At YNPN Twin Cities' Leadership Breakfast series, nonprofit leaders will share with you exactly how they did it, what they learned and what they're looking for in a rising nonprofit leader.
A little bit about Kate Barr, President and CEO at Propel Nonprofits:
Kate Barr is the President and CEO of Propel Nonprofits, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit whose mission is to fuel the impact and effectiveness of nonprofits with guidance, expertise, and capital. She led the merger of Nonprofits Assistance Fund and MAP for Nonprofits in 2017 to create a premier resource for nonprofits. Kate leads Propel’s team in developing and implementing innovative financing and programming and works with the Board of Directors to direct organizational planning and growth. She frequently presents workshops and presentations on nonprofit strategy and finance and is a sector level leader with articles, blogs, and policy papers.
Prior to joining the organization in 2000, Kate was Senior Vice President of Riverside Bank in Minneapolis where she was responsible for strategic planning and growth, marketing, regulatory compliance, and community development lending. She began her professional life as business manager of a performing arts nonprofit. Kate holds an MA in Leadership from Hamline University. She has been on the adjunct faculty of both the Hamline University Masters in Nonprofit Management Program and the University of Minnesota Masters in Arts & Cultural Leadership program. She is an alumnus of the Humphrey School’s Policy Fellows Program and the Shannon Institute. She has served on the boards of directors of nonprofits involved in arts, community development, and healthcare and currently serves on the boards of Borealis Philanthropy and the Jerome and Camargo Foundations.
Outside of work, Kate takes advantage of the Twin Cities’ vibrant arts scene and amazing restaurants, diving into policy issues, and traveling with her husband. She has lived in seven states and is an enthusiastic transplant to Minnesota. Kate couldn’t be prouder that her two adult children both work at nonprofits.
Leadership Breakfast Registration Lottery
Registration for this event will be open from Friday November 17 - Friday November 24. We allow as many people to sign up for the event as possible, and from there we choose 25 participants at random, while also holding space for young nonprofit professionals who identify as a person of color. We do this to keep these events intimate while ensuring everyone has a fair chance to attend a Leadership Breakfast event. If you registered for the lottery and identify as a person of color, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know to place your name in the correct lottery.
Our facilitator will reach out to all participants by Monday November 27 letting everyone know whether or not they received a spot through the lottery. Lottery winners will be asked to submit a question for our speaker in order to confirm their space. Unconfirmed spaces will be given to members of the wait list.
