Hurray for Discounted MCN Membership!

MCN_Logo.gifYou may have heard it bandied about that YNPN-TC members are now able to become Individual MCN members for $15. You may also be wondering about Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) and the benefits of joining. Luckily, MCN’s Michaela Charleston, Memberships and Communications Coordinator, was able to give us the scoop.

Could you give us a brief background about MCN for those who need to catch up?

MCN was founded in 1987 to meet the increasing information needs of nonprofits and to convene nonprofits to address issues facing the sector.

MCN maintains a democratic membership structure and representative board, and works to promote the importance of nonprofits in our communities and deliver information through large formats, such as conferences and online, frequently in partnership with allied organizations.

Can you give us the highlights of the benefits of MCN membership?

MCN members gain access to a variety of member benefits that will help you: stay informed; save time and money; network with other nonprofits and peers; learn from important sector research; advocate for the nonprofit sector, and award leading nonprofits.

Plus, as an MCN member you’ll be able to apply for YNPN-TC’s MCN conference scholarships!

How do you think MCN member benefits complement what YNPN-TC is doing for our members?

Both MCN and YNPN-TC provide peer support networks for nonprofit professionals with an emphasis on professional development. A partnership between the two organizations makes sense, as it joins two large networks with the same purpose.

Through a membership with MCN, YNPN-TC members can gain discounts to trainings and events (which are also networking opportunities) including scholarship opportunities that are set aside for YNPN-TC members specifically. YNPN-TC members who become MCN members are also joining a network of 2,000 nonprofit organizations (12,000 nonprofit professionals) that all work to advocate on the sector’s behalf.

MCN is an association, which means a big part of what you offer is networking, collaborating, convening and community. What’s special about the MCN community?

To answer this one, Michaela let MCN members speak for themselves! These comments come from the MCN Member and Conference Surveys

“Count on MCN being there, supporting the nonprofit sector on issues that I might not even be aware of.”

“I really appreciate the resources MCN provides. I have made great use of numerous resources and I am always impressed by the knowledge. professionalism and responsiveness of the staff. Thank you!”

“Just thank you for your excellent resources. It helps me to organize, eases the workload - thanks!”

“Thank you for all of the great work you do on behalf of the nonprofit community, the people we help and the community as a whole!”

Thank you to Michaela for answering our questions! We’re so excited to partner with MCN to benefit YNPN-TC members and the MN nonprofit sector!
